At Sunshine Carpet and Flooring we are proud to provide flooring options that not only increase the functional and visual appeal of your interior space, but are also considered to be “green” products. Some engineered hardwood floor systems are considered to be low impact to the environment as they use faster growing species for the center core layers using only a 2-4mm top layer of the premium species. But our real champions of the environment are cork and bamboo, fully sustainable floor systems which are created using 100% renewable material. As soon as the cork and bamboo are harvested the plant begins generating new shoots or bark for future harvests at minimal impact to the environment.

Bamboo flooring

Bamboo flooring offers a contemporary look providing a stylish finish to your floor surface. Produced from a fast-growing grass that requires no pesticides or fertilizers to thrive, bamboo is an unequaled renewable resource. This resilient vegetation can be harvested for "wood" every five years. Farmed bamboo provides habitat for birds and produces 35% more oxygen than an identically sized grove of trees! The finished product is available in planks that range from three-inches to six-inches-wide, is available in various transparent stains or distressed finishes to replicate exotic rainforest hardwoods and is very durable, water-resistant and antimicrobial.

Cork flooring

The warm, shock absorbing qualities of cork create an incredible feeling of comfort under your feet. Highly durable and water-resistant, this material is produced from the bark of the cork oak tree. Carefully hand harvested once every nine years, the cork bark is removed without damage to the tree, making it one of the most environmentally responsible flooring materials on the market today. This warm, durable material is coated with UV-resistant acrylic, adding to its longevity make it a great option for many areas, especially the kitchen, playroom and basements, which can otherwise get chilly. Cork is a casual, upscale material providing an echo-chic style to enhance the appeal of any room.
