We carry a wide variety of floor maintenance products to keep your floors looking beautiful

MAINTENANCE TIPS - General Care of Your Floor

- Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove loose dirt which can scratch your floor.

NOTE: We do not recommend vacuums that have a beater bar since it can visibly damage your flooring surface. Additionally, we do not recommend electric brooms with hard plastic bottoms with no padding as use may result in discoloration and deglossing.

- Wipe up spills as soon as possible. Remove dried spills with a cleaner.
- Never use highly abrasive scrubbing tools.
- Wash your floor regularly with manufacturers recommended floor cleaner.
- Do NOT use detergent, abrasive cleaner or “mop and shine” products. These products may leave a dull film.

Ceramic/Porcelain Tile Care

- Porcelain tile is stain-resistant requiring minimal maintenance.
- Wipe up spills with a damp cloth or sponge.
- Regular cleaning with clear water or a mild cleaner
- Do not use vinegar even when diluted

Carpet

It is essential to vacuum often and on a regular basis using a top quality vacuum with an efficient dust catching bag to prolong the life of carpet. In areas of heavy traffic, it is recommended that carpet be vacuumed three to four times per week. The vacuum used can help improve indoor air quality. However, a poor quality vacuum may contribute to the problem.
For best results use a vacuum cleaner with a beater bar (except on Berbers and Loop carpets), or rotating brush, and plenty of suction. Make sure you have adjusted the attachments to the proper height for your carpet. Another valuable trick is to vacuum slowly – about three passes over the area for light cleaning, seven passes where there is more soil. A good vacuuming is vital for prolonging the life of your carpet.

The most important thing you can do to keep your carpet looking great is to vacuum it thoroughly and frequently. Particularly in high traffic areas. Refrain from using a beater bar vacuum on looped carpet such as Berbers, a beater bar can pull causing carpet runs .

Cleaning your carpet after a spill, scoop as much of the spill as possible, and then blot with a colourfast absorbent cloth to remove excess moisture. Apply warm water to the stained area, then blot. Press firmly to remove as much moisture as possible. Do not rub. Repeat until the stain is gone or your cloth has no spill residue.

Professional cleaning is recommended, however, if you do decide to do it yourself carefully follow the manufacturers cleaning guidelines. Regardless of the cleaning method, immediate maximum residue removal is critical.

Hardwood, Laminate & Cork

While specific finish types may require different maintenance, some guidelines apply to the care of all wood floors. These guidelines are as follows:
- All furniture should have floor protector pads placed on the bottom of all furniture legs.
- Invest in a humidifier or some type of humidity control to prevent shrinkage in wood.
- Sweep, vacuum, dust-mop to remove dirt and grit.
- High heels and pet nails will damage wood floors so be sure to keep shoes off of wood and pet nails trimmed.
- Be attentive to water and spills.
- Use manufacturers instructions for cleaning your wood flooring.
- NEVER use household dust treatments, wet mops or ammonia.

Sheet Vinyl

Immediately After Installation:
- For 8 hours after seam application, protect the sealed seams on your flooring. This will ensure proper seam bond. If   your seams are disturbed before they’re dry, permanent damage may result.
- The adhesive under your floor needs time to thoroughly dry after installation. Therefore, we recommend that you do    not scrub or wash your floor for five days.

To keep the lasting shine and fresh feel of your investment for as long as possible,
we recommend that you:
- Wipe up spills as soon as possible.
- Wash your floor occasionally with a No-Rinse Floor Cleaner.
- Do not use detergents, vinegar, abrasive cleaners or "mop and shine" products - they may leave a dull film on your   floor.
- Do not use paste wax or solvent-based polishes.

Proactive Protection for Your Floor

When moving appliances or heavy furniture, it is always wise to lay a plywood panel on your floor and “walk” the item across it. This further protects your floor from scuffing and tears.
-Use floor protectors on furniture to reduce indentation. As a general rule of thumb, the heavier the item, the wider the
floor protector needed.
-Place a walk-off mat at outside entrances to reduce the amount of dirt brought into your home. We strongly recommend mats without a latex or rubber backing since these backing can cause permanent discoloration.
